Its lightness, rigidity, and good load-bearing and heat-transfer capabilities make it important in the manufacture of components such as wing casings, missile nose stacks, and landing gear for spaceships. Metal foams are also indispensable in construction where lightweight, rigid, and fire-resistant elements or railings are required, as well as for reinforcement to support structures such as thin-walled cylindrical shells.
Furthermore, metal foam excels in cushioning and shock absorption. It absorbs energy and reduces external forces, and by adjusting its density for strength, it is suitable for cushioning applications in a wide range of materials. Under constant stress, metal foams are able to withstand large compressive strains and absorb large amounts of energy, making them uniquely suited for use in areas such as artificial bone manufacturing.
In addition, metal foam is widely used in the field of noise reduction. Its good acoustic and sound-absorbing effect makes it play a key role in highway noise reduction, automobile internal combustion engine cylinders, high-speed train power generation room, radio recordings, and other occasions.
