How is nickel foam made and how is it stored?

Nickel foam is a material used to manufacture battery electrodes. Generally, the manufacturing method of nickel foam material is as follows: first conductive polyurethane sponge, then electrodeposition, and finally sintering.
In this process, electroplating generally adopts three methods: electroless plating, electroplating conductive adhesive and vacuum plating; electrodeposition can use sulfate or sulfamate nickel plating; the purpose of the sintering process is to burn the polyurethane sponge in the air and reduce it in hydrogen. There are two methods for sintering reduction in the atmosphere, in which the polyurethane sponge is burned in the air by oxidative decarburization treatment at 300~700 °C; sintering and reduction are carried out in a reducing atmosphere at 800~1000 °C under a hydrogen reducing atmosphere for 30~60 minutes, The reducing atmosphere is ammonia decomposition gas, and the consumption of decomposition gas is 0.8~1.2 L/g (0.8~1.2 liters of ammonia decomposition gas is consumed per gram of nickel).
The method relates to a method for preparing foamed nickel by conducting, electrodeposition and sintering of polyurethane sponge. The reduction temperature is 400~1000℃, the reduction time is 30~60 minutes, and the consumption of decomposition gas is 0.4~0.8 L/g. The ammonia decomposition gas (0.4-0.8 liters of ammonia decomposition gas is consumed per gram of nickel) is a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen, and its volume ratio is 1:3.
The reaction mechanism is that in the hydrogen reducing atmosphere, the nickel foam containing polyurethane sponge is directly pyrolyzed and sintered by electrodeposition, and the carbon and hydrogen react to generate gaseous hydrocarbons such as CH4 and C2H6. This gasification process can make the graphite in the porous body. C comes off cleaner.
